Filming on the seven-episode second season of HBO’s acclaimed game-to-film adaptation “The Last of Us” kicked off in February and comes to an end next week.
Plenty of set photos from production have gone online with stars Bella Ramsey, Pedro Pascal and Isabela Merced shooting scenes across parts of Canada’s British Columbia province.
One person who has kept a low profile though is Kaitlyn Dever who has the largest new role of the season as Abby – a soldier seeking vengeance.
Anyone who has played “The Last of Us Part II” game knows who Abby is, the character a controversial figure that inspired a lot of chatter and, in some circles, a lot of hatred that persists even now.
The filmmakers were well aware of that though with Merced revealing on a recent Happy, Sad, Confused podcast episode that her co-star Dever required extra security while filming:
“There are people that genuinely hate Abby, who is not a real person. Just a reminder, not a real person. Kaitlyn had to be extra secured by security when it came to the filming of this.”
Dever has already faced challenges with filming this, the actress lost her mother to breast cancer just over a week after filming began.
The first footage from the second season emerged earlier this month as part of an HBO preview montage. The new season, which is expected to adapt only part of “The Last of Us Part II” game, will likely air in early 2025.
