Tim Burton’s long-gestating supernatural comedy sequel “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” is expected to be one of the biggest films of the Fall.
Just how big is the obvious question, and now the film has appeared on long-range tracking forecasts with Box-Office Pro reporting that the film is targeting a domestic opening weekend debut of around $60-80 million.
Burton hasn’t opened a film higher than $50 million since 2010’s “Alice in Wonderland,” but there’s a lot of interest in the sequel to the beloved 1988 dark comedy which remains one of Burton’s signature films.
Aside from “Transformers One” which is going for a different demographic, “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” has no real studio tentpole competition until the “Joker” sequel the following month.
Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, and Catherine O’Hara return from the original film and are joined by the likes of Jenna Ortega, Willem Dafoe, Justin Theroux and Monica Bellucci this time out.
“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” opens in cinemas on September 6th.
