Ever feel like a phenomenon has completely passed you by? That is me with Squid Game. I watched the first episode, didn’t get grabbed, and never went back. Then I watched the entire world go Squid Game mad around me and thought I should revisit it. I just haven’t had the chance.

So now I am absolutely staggered to learn that there was only one season of Squid Game all the way back in 2021. Until now…

Netflix just dropped this teaser yesterday, ahead of a December 26th debt on the streamer.

The original Squid Game pulled in over 1.6 billion viewing hours in 28 days. It is the most-watched series on Netflix. So it seems it really was absolutely everyone in the world watching other than me.

If you, like me, have been living in a Squid Game-free world, then you won’t know that the series revolves around a secret contest where 456 players, all of whom are in deep financial hardship, risk their lives to play a series of deadly children’s games for the chance to win a 45.6 billion prize. The series’ title draws from a similarly named Korean children’s game that exists in reality.

Series creator Hwang Dong-hyuk conceived the idea based on his own economic struggles, as well as the class disparity in South Korea.

This new Daft Punk video is a bit… sinister

It went on to win Golden Globes, Screen Actors Guild awards and garner 14 Primetime Emmy nominations.

Returning this time are Lee Jung-jae as Seong Gi-hun, Lee Byung-hun as the black-masked Front Man, Wi Ha-jun as police detective Hwang Jun-ho, and Gong Yoo as the recruiter. New joiners are Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-Neul, Park Sung-hoon, Yang Dong-geun, Park Gyu-young, Jo Yu-ri, Kang Ae-sim, Lee David, Lee Jin-uk , Choi Seung-hyun, Roh Jae-won, and Won Ji-an.

In the second season, Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), who vowed revenge at the end of season one, returns and joins the game again on his mission to bring it all down.

There will be one, final season after this one, landing some time in 2025.
