Sony Pictures is reportedly happy enough with the latest cut of “Spider-Man” spin-off “Kraven the Hunter” that the film’s director J.C. Chandor has just closed a deal with them to direct his next project there says Deadline.
That untitled project will reportedly be a return to the contemporary thriller drama genre of his earlier work like “Margin Call,” “A Most Violent Year” and “Triple Frontier”.
Chandor is penning the new film which is said to involve an investigation into a death in a rich and powerful dynasty and is being dubbed “Succession with an Erin Brockovich feel”. A first draft is done and casting could begin quite soon.
The deal comes after the studio saw the latest cut of “Kraven” which stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Russell Crowe, Fred Hechinger, Ariana DeBose and Alessandro Nivola.
The film was delayed several times and is now opening in a prime mid-December release slot which reportedly allowed Chandor to tighten and sharpen what he had, along with doing some “strategic reshoots”.
The studio is obviously hoping for another “Venom” as opposed to another “Madame Web” or “Morbius”. Chandor himself tells the outlet “I think it’s gonna surprise the hell out of a lot of people.”
“Kraven the Hunter” opens in cinemas on December 13th.
