“The Holdovers” breakout Dominic Sessa has reportedly been attached to star as late chef Anthony Bourdain in the biopic “Tony” in the works at Star Thrower Entertainment reports Deadline.
Matt Johnson (“Blackberry”) is directing, while Tim and Trevor White are producing the film, which A24 is in negotiations to acquire.
A24 and Star Thrower recently collaborated on the upcoming film “Eternity”. Star Thrower was also the company behind the Will Smith-led biopic “King Richard,” which received plenty of awards attention.
Bourdain rose through the ranks cooking various restaurants across Manhattan in the 1980s and 1990s, but became famous on a whole other level with his essay about the ugly secrets of restaurants leading to his best-selling book “Kitchen Confidential”.
Bourdain went on to host a number of shows, most famously the Travel Channel series “Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations” which ran for eight seasons and focused on the exploration of international culture and cuisine.
He later switched to CNN for his “Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown” series. He was filming that series in France when he tragically passed away in 2018 after committing suicide.
