With the spoiler embargo lifted, still more photos have been released from “Deadpool & Wolverine” showing off the various cameos in the movie and detailing stories about landing them.
The film’s director Shawn Levy and star Ryan Reynolds have posted a bunch of photos of the likes of Channing Tatum’s Gambit, Dafne Keen’s X-23, Wesley Snipes’ Blade. Jennifer Garner’s Elektra and more.
Levy confirms to Happy Sad Confused that it is Matthew McConaughey indeed who recorded the Cowboypool dialogue – originally Reynolds himself was the voice in the early cuts until Matthew agreed to do it.
Levy confirms Patrick Stewart’s Professor X, and indeed almost all the X-Men, were never considered. The Fox heroes they did have cameo – Chris Evans as Johnny Storm, Tyler Mane’s Sabretooth and Aaron Stanford’s Pyro – were in there early.
Zeb Wells, who co-wrote the script, was a big fan of Mane’s Sabretooth and wanted him so that’s why Liev Schreiber Sabretooth was never considered.
Reynolds tells Collider that the 2015 “Fantastic Four” reboot cast was considered but scrapped early over budget concerns and lacking the surprise ‘power’ of the Chris Evans/Johnny Storm reveal.
Jordan Peele was being eyed for a high-ranking TVA bureaucrat villain but that didn’t happen. Also, I finally get to say this in proper context… Mephisto confirmed.
Levy says the red demonic character of Mephisto was included early on but was ditched: “Our offices are littered with ripped-up beat sheets that didn’t quite feel right. I know Mephisto was in some of those.”
“Deadpool and Wolverine” is in cinemas now.
Kid in a candy store doesn’t even begin to describe it. Honored to bring these heroes to the screen. Lucky to call them friends. pic.twitter.com/rA44jExp9Y

When Dafne Keen shows up in #DeadpoolAndWolverine she shines her light toward the big beating heart of the movie. Dafne and Hugh standing next to each other is a pinch me moment. It stands on the shoulders of the LOGAN film which is both a masterpiece and a giant.@slevydirect… pic.twitter.com/n9LjSUANnY

This Jen Garner person. She has a black belt in kindness but has inside her: an unblinking hurricane of vengeance.
I’ve worked with Jen twice now. She brings a completely different scope of skills to each movie but can’t hide one detail: I don’t care how talented someone is…… pic.twitter.com/H4dMUuJXAl

A lot of people have rightly praised Hugh’s acting masterclass in #DeadpoolAndWolverine. How did he do it? Talent, yes. Commitment, yes. But also a big assist to what can only be called “The Brando Method.” Strasberg better watch out. pic.twitter.com/XAthaVKqW3
