A man has been charged with allegedly stealing and selling pver $600,000 worth of unreleased limited edition coins tied to the worldwide smash hit Australian animated series “Bluey”.

Last month, NSW Police received a report that a large amount of the coins – around 64,000 in total – had been stolen from a warehouse in western Sydney.

As a result, the cops established a special task force known as ‘Strike Force Bandit’ to investigate the alleged theft.

Cut to today and a raid on a home in Westmead saw the cops arresting a 47-year-old man and charged him over the alleged theft of the coins that are produced by the Australian Mint and are stamped with images of the shows’ characters.

The coins were originally headed for a depot in Brisbane, but a pallet of them was missing on arrival leading to the investigation.

Investigations under Strike Force Bandit are continuing and it’s believed that two more men are involved in the alleged theft. The majority of the coins have not been recovered, and in fact may already be circulating in the economy.
