A trio of theatrical re-releases have set dates today.
First up, in order to celebrated the upcoming debut of the spin-off series “The Penguin” on HBO, Warner Bros. Pictures will re-release Matt Reeves’ Robert Pattinson-led “The Batman” film in cinemas for one night only.
The title will screen at AMC Theatres on Wednesday August 28th, while an international rerelease date has yet to be announced. The release comes three weeks ahead of the debut of “The Penguin” on September 19th.
Next, Paramount have pushed back a planned re-release of Christopher Nolan’s sci-fi epic “Interstellar” by over two months – moving it from the previously announced September 27th to a December 6th release for the movie’s 10th anniversary.
The film will be shown in 70mm Imax prints and on digital screens according to Variety, and Paramount has debunked a rumor swirling that the 70mm prints were reportedly destroyed following the film’s initial release.
In a statement to the trade, the studio claims it has archived more copies of the movie than most other pictures but adds: “because reels of film experience wear and tear while playing on the big screen, it’s not uncommon for them to be unusable after their theatrical runs.”
Finally, IFC Films is bringing Jennifer Kent’s Australian horror film “The Babadook” back to cinemas in honor of its tenth anniversary. The nationwide screening will take place on September 19th and will include an exclusive Q&A with Kent.
