Following his success with Marvel Studios’ “Deadpool & Wolverine,” filmmaker Shawn Levy is now turning his attention back to his “Star Wars” movie he has in the works.
Levy was set to direct a “Star Wars” film in November 2022, one separate from the three officially announced films in the works. However the strikes last year and his Marvel commitments stalled progress.
Things picked up steam again a few weeks back, “Banshee” and “Warrior” creator Jonathan Tropper came onboard to pen the script for Levy’s film. The pair had previously collaborated on “This Is Where I Leave You” and “The Adam Project”.
Now, in a recent interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Levy says he aims to tackle something standalone and not from a part of the timeline we’re familiar with:
“There’s only so many times that ‘Star Wars’ movies can revisit the same section of the timeline. I don’t want to do a ‘Star Wars’ film that is redundant to others. Nor am I interested in doing one that has to serve another movie.”
The franchise has come under fire of late for being too beholden to fan service. The recent “The Acolyte” finally gave us a story on a different part of the timeline, but it also led to a widely divisive reaction from the fanbase.
