The first season of Netflix’s live-action “One Piece” shot fron January-August 2022 with the season airing exactly a year after it wrapped in August 2023.
The second season is currently in production and wraps in December, so the hope is that – unhampered by pandemic or strike issues – it will be out a little sooner than December 2025.
Speaking with Temple of Geek during San Diego Comic-Con 2024, the show’s editor Eric Litman offered good news on that front as he says editing on the new season has already begun and they’re moving fast and smoothly so far.
He tells the outlet he can’t tease what he’s seeing though:
“I’m constantly cutting footage. I’m cutting scenes while they’re shooting stuff. We’re always talking about what’s being shot…fortunately, with One Piece – and also Agents of Shield – everything always worked! Everything was great. The footage, especially with One Piece, is just next level.”
So far casting for the new season has confirmed we’re seeing the Loguetown, Reverse Mountain, Whiskey Peak and Little Garden arcs with Drum Island and potentially some of Arabasta also expected.
Whilst there’s new additions this year like David Dastmalchian as Mr. 3, Daniel Lasker as Mr. 9, Clive Russell as Crocus, Callum Kerr as Smoker and Brendan Murray as Brogy, several key roles remain to be announced including Crocodile, Dr. Kureha, and potential regulars for Nico Robin, Portgas D. Ace and the voice of Tony Tony Chopper.
