Zack Snyder’s two-part sci-fi epic “Rebel Moon” released its R-rated director’s cut on Netflix yesterday with Snyder out doing a handful of press to promote the release.

The theatrical cuts were widely panned by critics and audiences and it’s expected these longer and more hardcore cuts are not going to make much difference.

The saga hasn’t been the success that Snyder’s “Army of the Dead” was for the streamer, so the filmmaker is set to try something different for his next work.

Speaking with Reel Blend, he says his next film is going to be on a relatively smaller scale:

“I’m trying to do a small movie right now. I’m not going to say what it is, but I was, like, can I just do a movie without any visual effects in it for like five minutes? Then, I’ll go back to the insanity. That’s what we’re trying to do right now.

I’m supposed to be writing this little movie and that’s kind of what I want to do. There’s a few things, a couple original ideas, a couple of IPs, you know there’s a few things that we have that are very ‘real’ that we’re just trying to lock in now.”

Snyder also spoke with THR about the recent report of a “300” prequel TV series which would suggest he’s mended fences with Warner Bros. Pictures. Is that the case? He tells the trade:

“I didn’t think about it in those terms. We were excited, and they seemed excited to work on what we would all consider classic IP at this point. (Laughs.) It’s a fun streaming concept that I think everybody is into, but I don’t think it’s some kind of … I like those guys over there. It’s all cool.”

Snyder also reacted to the set photos of David Corenswet as Superman, telling The Hollywood Handle: “I’m gonna say that: let’s see it in the movie. I’m interested to see how it works, you know, as a piece of storytelling. Yeah. But I am excited. I’m excited to see it.”

The “Rebel Moon” director’s cuts are now available on Netflix worldwide.
