Back in late 2019 came word that actress/filmmaker Elizabeth Banks was working on “The Invisible Woman” film at Universal Pictures.

Erin Cressida Wilson (“The Girl on the Train”) penned the script based on an original pitch by Banks who will also produce with Max Handelman.

Then, of course, things changed. The pandemic hit, but also Universal had big success with Leigh Whannell’s 2020 film “The Invisible Man” which turned the premise into a psychological thriller stalker film.

A sequel to that film is now in the early stages of development and, speaking to ComicBook.com, Banks revealed that her film had not unexpectedly been put on hold:

“For one thing, what happened was they made an Invisible Man movie, and they’re making another one, so I think Universal wants to see that through.

I’m really interested in the idea that we have, and it is still there, but it’s not something I’m actively working on in this moment in time.

I’m making a television show right now. Then I got to go make another television show, and then we’ll see what the heck we’re going to do.”

Banks most recently directed last year’s hit “Cocaine Bear” which may be getting a sequel itself.
