Universal Pictures has landed the screen rights to singer Britney Spears’ 2023 best-selling memoir “The Woman in Me”.
The book, published last October, has sold 2.5 million copies in the United States. The Michelle Williams-narrated audiobook was the fastest-selling in Simon & Schuster’s history.
It also generated numerous headlines, including the revelation Spears had an abortion while dating then-boyfriend Justin Timberlake.
Grammy winner Spears shot to stardom with debut single “… Baby One More Time” which was released in 1998 and went platinum 14 times. Her conservatorship garnered global attention before being terminated in 2021.
“Wicked” helmer Jon M. Chu is attached to direct the film which Marc Platt is set to produce.
Spears herself celebrated this news on social media, saying: “Excited to share with my fans that I’ve been working on a secret project with #MarcPlatt. He’s always made my favorite movies … stay tuned.”
