It is looking increasingly like Gina Carano is going to get her day in court. Attempts by Disney’s lawyers to have the case dismissed have come to nothing. As this trial is expected to shine a spotlight on the internal culture at Lucasfilm, it is likely that witnesses could include the great and the good of Star Wars.
A joint filing from Carano’s team and Disney has revealed that Pedro Pascal, Jon Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, and ex-Disney CEO Bob Chapek could all be called to testify. Even survival expert Bear Grylls is mentioned.
The Hollywood Reporter says the trial is now “tentatively scheduled” for September 25, 2025. Carano is gunning for wrongful termination after she was let go from The Mandalorian over controversial Tweets.
She was disciplined and ultimately fired for her political posts, but her male co-stars were not. This includes Pedro Pascal, and Carano’s team has highlighted a 2017 post in which he compared former President Donald Trump to Hitler. The lawsuit reads:
“Upon information and belief, Pascal was not disciplined, required to review documentaries on any of these topics or speak to individuals with contrary points of view, or pressured to apologize for any of his posts. His employment was not terminated, and Defendants made no public statements about his social media posts, much less refer to them as ‘abhorrent.’”
Favreau would be called upon to testify whether Carano was due to lead a new Star Wars spinoff centered on her character Cara Dune. Reports at the time claimed that the studio had in fact given the greenlight to Rangers of the New Republic.
British survival expert Bear Grylls would be asked to testify if his episode of Running Wild with Bear Grylls, featuring Carano, was pulled by Disney (owners of National Geographic) after Carano’s tweets became an issue internally at Lucasfilm.
There will also be an examination into the rumored conformist culture inside Lucasfilm that encouraged witch hunts against those with opposing political views to the prevailing attitudes of Hollywood.
Disney has apparently pushed back against the list of witnesses in Carano’s filing.
