Another month, another update on how the sequel to 2014’s Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt-led darkly comedic sci-fi war film “Edge of Tomorrow” is going.
The film earned $375 million at the global box-office from a $175 million budget, but the title became a major home video hit and has since been recognised as a cult hit. Last year, Emily Blunt indicated that a script for the sequel was done.
In a report last month, the film’s director Doug Liman said Warners is keen on getting the long-gestating sequel moving saying the studio is constantly bringing it up and asking “Will you go and make another one of these?”.
Now, Liman is back to offer another update, telling Collider he’s actively working on the script:
“I mean, Emily Blunt and Tom Cruise have never been more on top of their game than they are right now. I’d be crazy not to be trying to, you know, figure out how to make a sequel. So I am spending time trying to crack it.
Time travel’s really tough. All you have to do is develop a movie with time travel to come to the conclusion that humans will never travel through time because it’s hard to figure out a third act in a movie with time travel.”
Liman is currently busy promoting his next film “The Instigators”.
