“Man of Steel” and “Mission: Impossible – Fallout” alum Henry Cavill and Oscar winner Marion Cotillard are reportedly in talks to join Tom Cruise in “Broadsword” at Warner Bros. Pictures according to World of Reel.
The project is tipped to be Cruise and Christopher McQuarrie’s next project together after they wrap the eighth “Mission: Impossible” film, and isn’t a remake of “The Gauntlet” as previously rumored.
Set during WWII, the film will tell the story of an S.O.E. operation and a marine captain who crashes in France and becomes the sole survivor. Against all odds, he must complete his mission amidst the chaos of war.
The outlet adds that the project is targeting a Summer 2025 production start that suggests Cruise will shoot a Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu-directed film he’s committed to during the first half of next year.
Once “Broadsword” is done, Cruise could then segue to a third “Top Gun” after that.
The trades have not picked up on the project let alone the new casting so consider the report rumor for now.
