Following the film’s success the other month, a sequel is already in the works to recent horror hit “In a Violent Nature” with IFC Films and Shudder announcing the follow-up.
The first film follows the chaos caused by Johnny, a Jason Voorhees-esque slasher film killer. The film’s hook is that the camera stays with the killer throughout – including long stints of walking and seeking victims in between brutal slayings.
Released theatrically in May, it scored good critical reviews and became one of IFC Films’ ten highest-grossing films of all time and has been a success of VOD. It is slated to arrive on Shudder on September 13th.
Currently in early stages of development, the sequel will see the first film’s writer/director Chris Nash return to pen the script. Peter Kuplowsky and Shannon Hanmer produce.
Kuplowsky says in a statement: “‘In a Violent Nature’ was originally conceived as a meta-sequel within a fictional slasher series, so we were always imagining mayhem beyond the scope of the original film. That we now have the opportunity to continue following Johnny on his restless walk has us feeling incredibly grateful.”
The reveal of the sequel came during a contemporary horror panel at San Diego Comic-Con with Johnny himself putting in an appearance.
