It was expected to be the biggest debut of the year, and it’s certainly living up to those expectations – and beyond.
Marvel Studios’ “Deadpool & Wolverine” is headed for a three-day opening weekend haul of $195-205 million domestically – the eighth or ninth-best opening domestically of all time and on par with the first “Black Panther” and “Avengers” films.
Its opening day haul of $96 million (including previews) is also the sixth highest to date – behind only a few Marvel and “Star Wars” titles.
Internationally, the film is looking to do even higher from various global markets, so much so its worldwide opening weekend box-office could go as high as $420 million or more.
The news comes a few hours ahead of the studio’s massive Hall H panel at Comic Con which is expected to reveal some big news and updates about Marvel’s future slate.
The success sucked out the air for everyone else domestically with “Twisters” falling 56% in its second weekend to $36 million in second place. “Despicable Me 4” was third with $14.5 million, “Inside Out 2” was fourth with $8.7 million and “Longlegs” fifth with $6.9 million.
