By Nickelodeon held a major “SpongeBob SquarePants” Hall H panel today at this year’s San Diego Comic Con, and many were on hand to celebrate.
That led to a surprise appearance by Mark Hamill who revealed he will be voicing The Flying Dutchman in the upcoming fourth SpongeBob film “The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants” next year.
Not to be confused with spin-off film “Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie,” which hits Netflix next week, Hamill described his character thus: “He’s the most fearsome goofball pirate you’ve ever seen. The movie is more cerebral. It’s more thoughtful and intellectually challenging. No, I’m just yanking your chain. It’s inspired silliness from start to finish.”
That’s not the only gig that Hamill has scored today. He and the great Judy Greer have both joined the upcoming adaptation of the 1979 Stephen King novel “The Long Walk” which Francis Lawrence is directing.
They join Cooper Hoffman, David Jonsson, Garrett Wareing, Tut Nyuot, Charlie Plummer, Ben Wang, Jordan Gonzalez, Joshua Odjick and Roman Griffin Davis in the film.
The story of that focuses on a dystopian America that is entertained by the Long Walk – a competition in which 50 teenage boys walk without rest. Each competitor must keep walking faster than three miles per hour – or risk being eliminated.
It marks Hamill’s second recent King adaptation following his role in Mike Flanagan’s upcoming film “The Life of Chuck” which premieres this Fall at the Toronto Film Festival.
