Universal Pictures previously announced that Steven Spielberg’s next directorial effort, a “new original event film,” will launch on May 15th 2026.
The project’s details are under wraps, but it has been referred to as a ‘UFO film’ in times past. Today, during the latest IMAX Investor Presentation, it seemed to be revealed that the film is going by the title “The Dish” according to World of Reel.
In addition, Empire reports that “Challengers” and “La Chimera” star Josh O’Connor will join Emily Blunt in the cast of what’s been described as a ‘two-hander’. O’Connor is currently filming the third “Knives Out” movie for Rian Johnson at Netflix.
Production on the project is slated to begin in February in New Jersey and Atlanta. David Koepp is writing the screenplay based on Spielberg’s own original idea, marking one of the first times in a while Spielberg is working without Tony Kushner.
Kristie Macosko Krieger, who worked with Spielberg on his last two films, is producing.
