One of the biggest drawcards of Marvel Studios’ “Deadpool & Wolverine” is that it is chock full of cameos with multiple characters either returning or being a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Some of those were spoiled early in the promotional materials, such as Sabretooth and Toad, but others were under wraps. Then, in a final trailer for the film just one week before its release, Marvel surprisingly revealed the return of Dafne Keen’s X-23 from “Logan”.
Why did they give that away? It was all to do with the premiere. Marvel chief Kevin Feige tells Variety it was in part due to Dafne Keen’s desire to attend the film’s premiere on Monday night in New York City.
He says: “Dafne really wanted to go to the premiere and we said, ‘Well, she really can’t come to the premiere because it would be a spoiler.’ We hadn’t shown it yet.”
Surprisingly, Disney was onboard and wanted to tease the appearance as well as it offered an “emotional core of the movie” to get people to go. He adds the Disney marketers know: “exactly when to push a little forward and pull a little back”.
The comments come as “Deadpool & Wolverine” director Shawn Levy told THR that he “foresee[s] more collaborations between Marvel and me” as he was “arguably more creatively empowered and trusted on this movie than just about any other I’ve ever made”.
