By A new feature piece at THR (via World of Reel) has gone into the various problems plaguing HBO’s “Euphoria” and its struggles to get a third season into production.
In the midst of it all is the wildcard player – musician The Weeknd, aka Abel Tesfaye whom Levinson worked with on the disastrous HBO series “The Idol” – a series that had aimed to launch Tesfaye’s acting career. The problems with that show during its making and release are well-documented.
In January this year, months after “The Idol” released, word came that “Krisha” and “It Came at Night” filmmaker Trey Edward Shults was teaming with Tesfaye for a project the latter would co-write and star in.
Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan were also onboard the project which, at the time, was rumored to be a ‘loose remake’ of Rob Reiner’s 1990 film adaptation of Stephen King’s novel “Misery” with The Weeknd as a famous singer and Ortega as his deranged fan/stalker.
The new story reveals that the project was further along than what was reported. Coming in at a budget of over $20 million and financed by Live Nation, the title has been sitting in post-production for a year with sources saying “prospective buyers aren’t biting”.
When we’ll eventually get to see it, or a third season of HBO’s “Euphoria” for that matter, isn’t clear right now.
