SPOILERS AHEAD FOR ‘THE ACOLYTE’ FINALE

The first season of “Star Wars” series “The Acolyte” ends with two Sith of sorts – a master in Qimir (Manny Jacinto) and an apprentice with Osha (Amandla Stenberg).

Osha, who had been unclear on being light or dark over the season, seemed to go over to the dark side by killing her former Jedi master Sol (Lee Jung-Jae) and the ‘bleeding’ of her lightsaber crystal.

Events of the series see her at the end, standing on a beach with Qimir, their future uncertain but a path they have to walk together now. It’s a relationship that could go beyond mentor-student as Jacinto’s acting was smoldering to the point some were picking up vibes between the two.

Turns out those suspicions were correct. Jacinto tells Vulture they did shoot a kiss between the two characters to end the season, but it was ultimately decided against as it felt unearned:

“I’m just going to put it out there. There was a version that we filmed where Osha and the Stranger actually kiss. But we felt that it may have not been too earned at that moment. I think it was just too early on.

The Stranger killed a bunch of her friends, and she just killed her fatherlike figure [Sol]. For them to have this sensual moment just didn’t feel like it was appropriate. It’s just on the cutting-room floor.

But I suggested, ‘Maybe not the kiss, but how about a hand-hold?’ Some sort of wanting to console, some sort of physicality that expresses that he cares for her and feels for her and that they’re in this together now. That’s something that, if we do a Season 2, maybe we can work toward, if the fans want it.”

Ultimately the two touch hands on the Stranger’s home island as the show ends. Whether they’ll get to explore anything deeper is not clear right now as Disney hasn’t renewed the highly contentious series.
