Two years ago came the news in the trades that Marvel Studios is was developing a project based around the character of Nova (aka. Richard Rider).
Sabir Pirzada, who had worked in the writer’s room on Marvel’s “Moon Knight” series, was set to write and it was unclear if it would be a film or limited series. Studio chief Kevin Feige would produce though.
Cut to today and Feige, out talking “Deadpool and Wolverine” with press, has revealed to ComicBook.com that the project is still on the way though remains a few years off: “It’s happening, it’s coming together. Richard Rider, yep… It’s three or four years out.”
One thing he could confirm today though – it won’t be film, rather a TV series: “A show, yeah, yeah”. That Feige is willing to discuss it suggests the title won’t be a part of the studio’s presentation at Comic Con next Saturday.
In the comics, Nova is a member of the intergalactic police force known as the Nova Corps for which he gained superhuman abilities including enhanced strength, flight and resistance to injury.
The character has still yet to make an appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, filmmaker James Gunn previously revealing he deliberately kept Nova out of the “Guardians of the Galaxy” films as he’s “just too big of a character”.
