Iconic comedian and sitcom star Bob Newhart has died. He was 94.
The Chicago-born funnyman, famed for his wry delivery and pausing/stammering, passed away at his Los Angeles home after a series of short illnesses according to his longtime publicist.
Acting since the 1960s, he headlined his own series in 1972 titled “The Bob Newhart Show” which would become immensely popular. He returned in 1982 with “Newhart” which had a similar very long run.
His list of credits is varied and includes films like “Catch-22,” “Hell Is for Heroes,” “Cold Turkey,” “The Rescuers,” “Elf,” “In & Out” and “Horrible Bosses”.
He also guest starred on TV in shows like “ER,” “The Big Bang Theory,” “Desperate Housewives,” “Murphy Brown,” “NCIS,” “The Simpsons” and “The Librarians”.
He was inducted into the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Hall of Fame in 1992. In 2002, he became the fifth recipient of the Kennedy Center’s Mark Twain Prize for American Humor.
