New Zealand actor/writer/comedian/filmmaker Jemaine Clement has revealed that early work on a second season of the upcoming “Time Bandits” TV series is underway.
Clement and his fellow “What We Do in the Shadows” creators Taika Waititi and Iain Morris are behind this series adaptation of Terry Gilliam’s iconic 1981 fantasy film with Clement also taking the on-screen role of Evil played by David Warner in the original.
The ten-episode series will follow an 11-year-old history geek named Kevin (Kal-El Tuck) as he journeys through the centuries with a ragtag group of thieves led by Penelope (Lisa Kudrow).
This crew embark on epic adventures while evil forces threaten their conquests, and life as they know it. As the group transports through time and space, the gang stumbles upon fascinating worlds of the distant past while seeking out treasure.
Speaking with ComicBook.com while out promoting the series, Clement confirms he and Waititi have started writing the scripts for the potential second season despite no renewal order being officially handed out as yet:
“We are actually writing a second season, but it depends on if people watch the first season. If no one watches it, we throw it away in a bin. But I cannot tell you because I don’t want to spoil the second season.”
The series will debut on Wednesday, July 24th with the first two episodes followed by weekly episodes on the Apple TV+ service.
