In mid-2023, just after the writer’s strike and just before the actor’s strike, Walt Disney Pictures president Sean Bailey announced a third “Hocus Pocus” film is in the works.
“Hocus Pocus 2” snagged 2.7 billion minutes watched in its debut weekend, becoming the most-watched original film for Disney+ at the time of its release in September 2022.
It wasn’t clear where things stood with a third one at the time of the announcement. Things became clearer in October last year when screenwriter Jen D’Angelo revealed they were in the story phase and things were fairly early along.
Bette Midler, who plays the eldest of the wicked Sanderson Sisters, appeared on the QVC+ talk show “Busy This Week” recently and says (via EW) that she has yet to see a script. She also urges the studio to get a move on:
“I haven’t seen the script, but I’ve heard rumblings. I think if they’re gonna, they oughta, because time is not just marching, time is barrel-assing to the finish line. Get us while we’re still breathing, I mean, God!”
Anne Fletcher, who helmed the second film, is expected to return for the third film whenever it does go into production.
