Not that long ago, Giancarlo Esposito confirmed he had joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a role that was being kept a mystery.
The “Breaking Bad” and “The Boys” actor had long been rumored for various parts, from Professor X to Doctor Doom, so it came as a slight surprise when he showed up on the set of the “Captain America: Brave New World” reshoots.
The surprise was he was dressed in combat gear and shooting at people – seemingly playing a quite human character albeit a skilled killer.
So what role is it? Online speculation has him playing G.W. Bridge, an obscure character from the comics who with ties to the S.H.I.E.L.D. agency. During a convention appearance this weekend however, Esposito seemed to debunk those claims saying (via Resonant Justice):
“The character I’m playing is a badass. That always excites me. For me to develop that character in line with the character’s inception is a fascinating art for me.
I had an incredible time shooting it. I’m not telling you who I’m playing…people are trying to guess and no one has guessed correctly yet.”
Esposito has also previously said he’ll appear in both this movie and then a Disney+ TV series, with the character rumored to be coming to either “Daredevil: Born Again” or “Ironheart”.
The talk follows in the wake of the first trailer for “Captain America: Brave New World” hitting on Friday. The film also stars Anthony Mackie, Danny Ramirez, Shira Haas, Xosha Roquemore, Carl Lumbly, Liv Tyler, Tim Blake Nelson, and Harrison Ford.
We’ll see what Esposito’s role truly is when “Captain America: Brave New World” opens in cinemas February 14th 2025.
