FX’s “Shōgun” was the big winner at the 40th annual Television Critics Association awards which is celebrating its first in-person ceremony in five years tonight. The winners were revealed early in a press release.
The adaptation of the famed James Clavell novel won Program of the Year, Outstanding Achievement in Drama, Individual Achievement in Drama (Anna Sawai), and Outstanding New Program.
The critically acclaimed drama is now set to likely dominate this year’s Emmy awards with nominations for that ceremony set to be revealed next week.
Also scoring well were Max’s “Hacks” which won two honors including Outstanding Achievement in Comedy and Individual Achievement in Comedy (Jean Smart).
“Baby Reindeer” won the for best telemovie/mini-series, “Doctor Who” won best family programming, “Bluey” won best children’s programming, “The Traitors” won best reality programming, “Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV’ won best news programming, and “John Mulaney Presents: Everybody’s in LA” won best variety/talk show programming.
Special awards, the Heritage Award and Career Achievement Award, were handed out to “Twin Peaks” and the late Andre Braugher respectively. The awards recognise the impact both have made on the industry.
