Sony Pictures Classics has announced an October 4th 2024, theatrical-wide release for the Saoirse Ronan-led adaptation of author Amy Liptrot’s 2016 memoir.

Ronan plays 29-year-old Rona, a recovering alcoholic who returns home to the Orkney Islands and comes to terms with getting sober. Paapa Essiedu, Stephen Dillane and Saskia Reeves co-star. [Source: Variety]

The Avenging Silence
“Drive” and “Only God Forgives” director Nicolas Winding Refn is gearing up to return to movie-making with his long-in-the-works spy movie “The Avenging Silence” reportedly set to start filming this September in Korea. The series follows a mute ex-spy brought out of retirement to kill off an exiled Yakuza boss. [Source: World of Reel]

Young Woman and the Sea
Disney has officially announced a July 19th release date on the Disney+ service of the Daisy Ridley-led biographical drama “Young Woman and the Sea”.

Joachim Rønning helms the film with Ridley playing Trudy Ederle, a swimmer who rose through the ranks of the Olympic swimming team and swam the English channel. [Source: Disney]

Alien: Romulus
A featurette video for “Alien: Romulus” has revealed new footage from the upcoming Fede Álvarez horror movie opening August 16th. The clip talks about the filmmaker’s intent to make a “pure horror movie” and how they “built every creature for real” in this very practical production.

The film is set primarily on a derelict space station as a group of young space colonizers come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe. Cailee Spaeny, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced, Spike Fearn, and Aileen Wu star.
