NEON’s cleverly marketed serial killer horror film “Longlegs” is proving to be a draw at the box-office this weekend.
Deadline reports that Thursday night previews for the film are looking to come in at $2.5-3 million with the movie on track for an opening of $10-15 million.
The Thursday figure is the specialty distributor’s best ever Thursday preview haul, easily beating the sub-$1 million record held by the Sydney Sweeney-led “Immaculate” earlier this year.
The question now is whether the movie will beat the $12 million projection of the Scarlett Johansson-Channing Tatum rom-com “Fly Me to the Moon” which also opens Friday – it took in just $800K or so in previews, but isn’t expected to be as frontloaded as “Longlegs”.
Maika Monroe plays an FBI agent in the film who is assigned to an unsolved serial killer case that takes unexpected turns, revealing evidence of the occult.
Nicolas Cage also stars but NEON is carefully keeping his appearance under wraps – only showing off a man of dirty white & grey hair.
With 101 reviews now counted, the film sits at 92% (7.8/10) on Rotten Tomatoes.
