Paramount Pictures’ premiere of the trailer for Ridley Scott’s “Gladiator II” was a bonafide smash.
In its first 24 hours, the clip was viewed by 128 million around the world across social platforms including Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube and X in its first 24 hours.
That beats “Top Gun: Maverick” which garnered 75 million views during the same time span. Within a 48-hour timespan, the trailer had generated 177 million views.
The trailer is continuing to trend on YouTube, two days after its launch, even as discussion swirls around the clip’s music usage.
In the wake of Universal moving up its “Wicked” film to the same weekend, talk is already stirring of a potential #Barbenheimer style contrasting double film event with the male-skewing Roman epic and the female-skewing musical.
The original “Gladiator” opened to $34.8 million during the first weekend of May 2000 – ultimately going on to gross $187.7 million domestically and $465.3 million globally.
Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn, Fred Hechinger, Connie Nielsen and Denzel Washington lead the cast of the new film which opens in some international markets on November 15th and in U.S. cinemas on November 22nd.
