A report in Deadline says Michael Bay, director of Transformers and Bad Boys… and The Rock, Pearl Harbor, Six Underground, Armageddon, Ambulance… is switching back to TV and is in talks with Netflix to direct their in-development TV series adaptation of Barbaric.
Barbaric is a best-selling 2021 Vault comic that has been described as Conan The Barbarian meets Game Of Thrones meets The Boys with a light dusting of Terry Pratchett’s Discworld.
According to the blurb, Owen the Barbaria has an axe, and he is gonna do some good with it, even if he has to kill someone.
He has been cursed to do good with what remains of his life. His bloodthirsty weapon, Axe, has become his moral compass with a drinking problem. Together they wander the realm, foredoomed to help any who seek assistance. But there is one thing Owen hates more than a life with rules: Witches.
The skull-cracking, blood-splattering, mayhem-loving stork asks: How can a man sworn to do good do so much violence?
Bay has executive produced multiple television series such as Black Sails and The Last Ship. Sheldon Turner will pen the series, with Peaky Blinders star Sam Claflin leads the cast, which will also feature the voice of Patrick Stewart.
Turner, Claflin, Jennifer Klein, F.J. DeSanto, Damian Wassel, Luke Carroll, Michael Stevenson, Barry Jossen, and Tana Jamieson executive produce.
