Ridley Scott’s “Napoleon” director’s cut could arrive shortly as the title has secured an R rating from the U.S. film ratings board, the MPA.
A listing on their official site confirms the film, titled “Napoleon: The Director’s Cut,” scored the R rating for “strong violence, grisly images, sexual content, some nudity and language”.
The rating suggests Apple TV intends to make the film available on their platform sometime fairly soon. No word on a date yet.
News of a director’s cut of the film broke nearly a year ago with Scott reportedly working on a version around four hours long with much more backstory for Josephine.
The theatrical cut, released in November, clocked in at just over two-and-a-half hours and landed mixed reviews.
The hope is the longer cut will flesh out the epic more with obvious parallels drawn to Scott’s “Kingdom of Heaven” which had a mixed/poor theatrical cut reception but its director’s cut managed high acclaim.
