Netflix is developing a TV series adaptation of the best-selling 2021 Vault comic “Barbaric” which has “Transformers” and “Bad Boys” filmmaker Michael Bay in talks to direct.
If it goes forward it would mark Bay’s TV directing debut. Bay has executive produced multiple series including “Black Sails,” “he Last Ship,” “Jack Ryan” and “The Purge”. His last directed feature was 2022’s “Ambulance”.
Sheldon Turner will pen the series which mixes wild violence and humor and is dubbed “Deadpool meets Game of Thrones”.
“Peaky Blinders” and “Daisy Jones & the Six” alum Sam Claflin leads the cast alongside the voice of “Star Trek” and “X-Men” alum Patrick Stewart.
Set in a medieval fantasy world, the series chronicles the journey of Owen (Claflin) – a barbarian cursed to do the right thing – and his talking and rather horny axe (voiced by Stewart) as they unite to take on a great evil.
Turner, Claflin, Jennifer Klein, F.J. DeSanto, Damian Wassel, Luke Carroll, Michael Stevenson, Barry Jossen and Tana Jamieson executive produce.
