RunTelDat and WonderHill Studios are set to produce “Young Martin,” a new hourlong drama series “Bel-Air”-style reimagining of Martin Lawrence’s 1990s FOX sitcom “Martin”.
The new series is described as a contemporary origin story centering on Martin Payne, a charismatic and spirited teenager navigating the complexities of transitioning from youth to adulthood in modern-day Detroit.
Armed with ambition, humor, and a genuine compassion, the young Payne’s quick wit and magnetic personality draw him into high-stakes situations in an effort to ultimately find his path to success.
Lawrence, Rae Proctor, Robert Lawrence, Stacy Lyles, Bob Yari, David McPherson, Rosa Peart and Greg Martin all executive produce.
During its five-season run, the original series earned multiple awards. It came back into the zeitgeist with a highly rated 30th anniversary reunion special on BET+ in 2022 and the original cast reuniting on screen at this year’s Emmy Awards.
Lawrence is currently back on the big screen in “Bad Boys: Ride or Die” which has made $361 million worldwide at the box-office.
