Unsurprisingly, the Eddie Murphy-led “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F” topped the Netflix charts for the first week of July.
In the streamer’s just published top ten, the revival of the action-comedy franchise landed 41 million views.
That came in ahead of the 31.9 million second week of the Nicole Kidman/Zac Efron rom-com “A Family Affair” and the 9 million third week of the Jessica Alba-led “Trigger Warning”.
The film made the Top 10 in 93 countries and is the highest premiering Netflix original film in 2024, very narrowly beating out shark film “Under Paris” at 40.9 million.
That film, which is still the most popular non-English movie on the charts over a month later, is now the third most popular non-English film of all time on the service.
The ‘Axel F’ debut was ahead of the first-week launches of “Damsel” (35.3 million), “Lift” (32.8 million), “A Family Affair” (26.8 million), “Atlas” (28.2 million), “Mother of the Bride” (26.7 million), “Trigger Warning” (25.7 million), “Society of the Snow” (22.9 million), and “Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver” (21.4 million).
A lot of eyes will be on “Axel F” in the coming weeks as it needs to more than triple that opening weekend number to break into the Netflix all-time Top 10.
