By Netflix has officially premiered the trailer for “Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie,” the new “Spongebob Squarepants” spin-off feature which premieres August 2nd.
In the film, which is CG animated with live-action segments, Bikini Bottom and all its denizens are suddenly scooped out of the ocean.
Sandy Cheeks and SpongeBob SquarePants journey to Texas to save the town from a villainous plot by an evil CEO, in addition to meeting Sandy’s family.
Members of Sandy’s family include Wanda Sykes as both Ma Cheeks and Granny Cheeks, Craig Robinson as Pa Cheeks and Johnny Knoxville as Randy Cheeks.
The film is penned by Tom Stern and Kaz with Sinking Ship Entertainment handling the animation.
The project marks the first of two feature-length “SpongeBob SquarePants” spin-off movies for Netflix – the other being the “Plankton” movie still in the works.
