Apple TV+ has premiered the first trailer from “Time Bandits,” the TV series adaptation of Terry Gilliam’s iconic 1981 fantasy film.
The project was first announced back in 2018 and hails from “What We Do in the Shadows” co-creators Taika Waitita, Jemaine Clement, and Iain Morris.
The ten-episode series will follow an 11-year-old history geek named Kevin (Kal-El Tuck) as he journeys through the centuries with a ragtag group of thieves led by Lisa Kudrow’s Penelope.
This crew embark on epic adventures while evil forces threaten their conquests, and life as they know it. As the group transports through time and space, the gang stumbles upon fascinating worlds of the distant past while seeking out treasure, depending on Kevin to shed light on each situation.
These ‘Time Bandits’ witness the creation of Stonehenge, see the Trojan Horse in action, escape dinosaurs in the prehistoric ages, wreak havoc during medieval times, experience the Ice Age, ancient civilizations and the Harlem Renaissance, and much more along the way.
The cast includes Tadhg Murphy, Roger Jean Nsengiyumva, Rune Temte, Kiera Thompson, Rachel House, James Dryden, Matt King, George Houvardas, Zoe Ventoura, Francesca Mills, Imaan Hadchiti and Charlyne Yi.
The original film was famed for its chaotic tone and a number of high profile cameos and supporting roles. Grossing $36 million on a budget of $5 million, the film was the first of three notable darkly comedic wild films by Gilliam.
“Time Bandits” will premiere globally with the first two episodes on July 24th, followed by two new episodes every Wednesday through August 21st.
