“Evil Dead” filmmaker Sam Raimi is returning to horror.
The filmmaker has closed a deal to direct and produce the two-hander horror thriller “Send Help” at 20th Century Studios.
Not yet officially greenlit, the story unfolds on an island with a story said to be at the halfway point between Robert Zemeckis’ “Castaway” and Rob Reiner’s Stephen King adaptation “Misery”.
Damian Shannon and Mark Swift (2009’s “Friday the 13th,” “Freddy vs. Jason”) penned the original script while Raimi will produce alongside Zainab Azizi under his Raimi Productions.
The plan is very much for a theatrical release with this title. Raimi most recently directed “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” and his last outright horror film directing effort was 2009’s “Drag Me to Hell”.
Raimi recently produced “Evil Dead Rise” which opened last year and will produce at least two more currently untitled installments for the franchise which are in the works.
He’s also producing upcoming horror films “Don’t Move” which Netflix landed in April, and “Locked” which is currently in post-production.
