Paramount Pictures has released the official trailer for Ridley Scott’s mega-budget epic sequel to 2000’s “Gladiator”.
Paul Mescal stars as the adult version of Lucius – the grandson of Rome’s former emperor Marcus Aurelius, nephew of Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix) and son of Lucilla (Connie Nielsen)
Lucius resides peacefully with his family in Numidia until Roman soldiers, led by General Marcus Acacius (Pedro Pascal) invade and force him into slavery.
Inspired by the legendary Maximus, Lucius decides to fight as a gladiator and oppose the rule of the young emperors, Caracalla (Fred Hechinger) and Geta (Joseph Quinn).
Denzel Washington also stars a grudge-holding former gladiator who pulls the strings behind the scenes for his own purposes.
Also starring in the $300 million budget film are Djimon Hounsou, Matt Lucas, Lior Raz, Peter Mensah, May Calamawy, Tim McInnerny and Derek Jacobi.
David Scarpa penned “Gladiator 2” which is set to open in cinemas internationally from November 15th and in U.S. cinemas on November 22nd.
