Actor Simon Pegg has confirmed that he has wrapped filming on the eighth “Mission: Impossible” film.
Pegg has finished just over two years after production began on the sequel and around four years since “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One” began shooting. In a story posting on Instagram, Pegg says:
“I just wrapped my last day on Mission Impossible and said a farewell to everybody. And we started shooting the first part of this story in September 2020, and here we are in July 2024. What a journey has been. And what a f—ing incredible spectacle this next film is going to be, I’m so excited for you to see it. But until then, Benji Dunn signing off.”
With the next film expected to be the potential end to the series, it could well mark the end of Pegg’s time in a role he’s played regularly in the franchise since the third film in 2006.
The issue the franchise now faces ties to straight economics. The first part of ‘Dead Reckoning’ pulled in $567.5 million worldwide, down on the near $700 million the fourth and fifth films scored and the near $800 million the sixth landed.
With a gross production budget of $291 million, it was one of the most expensive films ever made and the sequel looks likely to come in at a higher cost with reports that the film is already over $300 million and heading towards $400 million by the time its done (though they haven’t been confirmed).
