Netflix’s proposed TV series based on PlayStation’s acclaimed “Horizon: Zero Dawn” franchise, first confirmed two years ago, has stalled.
The news comes from a recent story about “The Umbrella Academy” showrunner Steve Blackman by Rolling Stone, which accused the producer of “toxic, bullying, manipulative and retaliatory behavior”.
In that piece, they indicate the series is reportedly not moving forward at the streaming giant. Right now it’s unclear if the series will move forward with a different creative partner, or if the project has been entirely scrapped.
When the show was announced, Blackman was front and center in his excitement about adapting the games: “Horizon Zero Dawn is an exceptionally well-crafted game with wonderful characters not often seen in the rank-and-file of the gaming world. Guerrilla Games has created an incredibly lush and vivid world of man and machine who find themselves on a collision course to oblivion.”
Like the games, the series would have followed Aloy, a young outcast who sets out to unravel the mysteries behind her robot dinosaur-filled, post-apocalyptic world.
Blackman was partnering with Michelle Lovretta to do the series. Another Blackman project in the works at Netflix, the outer-space thriller series “Orbital,” is also no longer moving forward.
Sony is also currently working on a TV adaption of their beloved “God of War” property at Amazon Prime Video. Multiple “Horizon” video game projects are also currently in development.
