Tim Burton’s highly anticipated supernatural comedy sequel “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” has been announced as the opening film of the upcoming Venice Film Festival next month.
It will world premiere out-of-competition on August 28th at the Lido’s Palazzo del Cinema, the screening coming just days ahead of its global release in the first week of September..
Michael Keaton returns to his iconic character from the 1988 original while Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara are back as Lydia and Delia Deetz, respectively, with “Wednesday” star Jenna Ortega as Lydia’s daughter Astrid.
After an unexpected family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return home to Winter River. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia’s life is turned upside down when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, discovers the mysterious model of the town in the attic and the portal to the Afterlife is accidentally opened.
With trouble brewing in both realms, it’s only a matter of time until someone says Beetlejuice’s name three times and the mischievous demon returns to unleash his very own brand of mayhem.
Justin Theroux, Monica Bellucci, Arthur Conti and Willem Dafoe co-star whilst Burton directs from a screenplay by Alfred Gough & Miles Millar.
Marc Toberoff, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, Tommy Harper and Burton produce. “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” will hit theaters on September 6th.
Other titles expected to screen at Venice include Todd Phillips’ “Joker: Folie a Deux,” Luca Guadagnino’s “Queer,” Pablo Larrain’s “Maria,” Jon Watts’ “Wolfs” and Ron Howard’s “Eden”.
