Jeff Nichols’ biker drama “The Bikeriders,’ starring Tom Hardy, Jodie Comer and Austin Butler, has landed good (but not great) reviews and so far has grossed $14 million since opening last weekend.
Focus Features isn’t going to give this one time to breath though as When to Stream reports that the title is coming to PVOD on July 9th, just over three weeks after the $40 million budget film’s theatrical release on June 21st.
The movie debuted to $9.7 million last weekend, but this weekend it has fallen to sixth – plunging 68% and looking likely to only snag $3.1 million.
It’s not the only film from that weekend also making the same jump, so it the Russell Crowe-led meta film “The Exorcism” which debuted last weekend to a dismal $2.5 million in seventh place and will now arrive on PVOD on July 9th.
The 25-day gap between theatrical and PVOD is longer than the mere 17 days that “The Fall Guy” and 21 days that “Challengers” had in cinemas before being also made available on digital platforms, but shorter than the 31 days between the theatrical and PVOD release of “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga”.
Current box-office champs like “Inside Out 2,” “Bad Boys Ride or Die” or “A Quiet Place: Day One” have yet to lock in any streaming plans.
