Pixar’s “Inside Out 2” is dominating the box-office, the film introducing more complicated emotion characters like Anxiety, Ennui, Embarrassment, and Envy into the mix.
Those four were picked after a careful selection of multiple other emotions that were under consideration. Speaking with Comicbook.com recently, writer Meg LeFauve says they tried to get characters Shame and Guilt into the film for a long time.
Both were ultimately scrapped after talking to experts. Guilt went as it’s “about taking responsibility and it’s a behavior, not who you are”. Shame was more a self-loathing thing that simply “attacks you” and they could incorporate some elements of it into the more central Anxiety character.
In terms of specific sequences that didn’t make the film the team would’ve liked to include, LeFauve says: “We had a fisherman for ideas named Gail, and we went to the Facts and Opinions factory and saw how those were made. And that was super fun.”
Director Kelsey Mann says one idea that came up was ‘Procrastination Land’ which he hopes will make the next film should it happen:
“One of my favorites is a location that we came up with called Procrastination Land. This is the land I definitely have, especially as a teen.
It was a land which had a big sign that said ‘Procrastination Land’ and then it said ‘Coming Soon.’ And Anger was like, ‘When are they gonna start building that place?! It just keeps sitting there!’ They haven’t made any movement on it.
It’s such a funny idea. We had trouble figuring out why in this particular story. I won’t tell you everything about it, there’s some other stuff about it that’s really funny. So I’m like, ‘This has to be used somehow in the future.’”
“Inside Out 2” is out in cinemas now and has already passed the original film’s total gross worldwide after just two weeks.
