A new preview of Marvel Studios’ “Agatha All Along” series is out in Empire and showcases a photo of the Agatha Harkness character (played by Kathryn Hahn) alongside four other witches.
Patti LuPone, Sasheer Zamata, Debra Jo Rupp, and Ali Ahn are the other four actresses in the shot. Speaking to the magazine, series creator Jac Schaeffer says this group is mostly a ‘disparate mixed bag’ of magic users that have no coven. That ties into the show’s plot:
“What they have in common is that they’re covenless witches. Witches are defined by deception, treachery, villainy and selfishness. What do you do when you have a group of witches who [demonstrate] those notions and you need them to work together?”
Schaeffer, who serves as head writer, executive producer and director, says whereas “WandaVision” used its format to riff on classic TV sitcoms, this series will riff on the basics of witch mythology:
“[Where] WandaVision played with the form of classic TV sitcoms, [here] we do a lot of playing with what the assumptions about witches are. Like, what are the shorthand visuals for witches? We certainly didn’t want a one-dimensional nasty witch. We will have moments where we see Agatha’s true heart.”
Emma Caulfield Ford, Aubrey Plaza, Joe Locke and Maria Dizzia also star in the series which is expected to feature several musical numbers from songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez.
EXCLUSIVE FIRST LOOK #AgathaAllAlong sees the MCU villain join a “disparate, mixed bag of witches,” creator Jac Schaeffer tells Empire: “What they have in common is that they’re covenless.”
