FX just launched the full third season of its highly acclaimed and dysfunctional restaurant kitchen ‘comedy’ series “The Bear” yesterday, with plenty of binge-watching now underway.
Earlier this year, reports surfaced that the series was scheduled to shoot seasons three and four back to back. The reasoning was that the in-demand cast is finding it increasingly difficult to align their schedules.
So, generating two seasons in a row would solve potential availability problems. Unfortunately that plan didn’t happen with The Playlist indicating the idea was scrapped as scripts weren’t ready in time.
The cast essentially confirmed it as well during a press conference this week when they were asked if the seasons were shot back to back to which Ayo Edebiri responded: “We did something like that. Yeah, a little version of it, sort of. But not exactly… You’ll have to find out.”
FX reportedly has since confirmed the cast’s statements: seasons three and four weren’t shot back to back, but some elements for that fourth season were shot in advance.
Reports indicate the fourth season will resume production in early 2025. All three lead actors have filming commitments this Fall including Jeremy Allen White for the Springsteen biopic “Nebraska,” Ayo Ederbi for Luca Guadagnino’s “After the Hunt,” and Ebon Moss-Bachrach for Marvel’s “The Fantastic Four”.
Indications do seem to be that the fourth season will likely be the last with showrunner Christopher Storer already lining up both a new FX series and a movie to direct.
Meanwhile there’s arguments online that the series should’ve been a weekly drop rather than a binge one, do you agree? Have your say in the comments below.
