Emmy winner Sarah Michelle Gellar has signed onto the “Dexter” prequel series “Dexter: Original Sin” on the Paramount+ service.
The original eight-season long series starred Michael C. Hall as the police blood spatter analyst who moonlights as a serial killer. James Remar played his adoptive father and Jennifer Carpenter his sister.
With ‘Original Sin,’ “Shadow and Bone” alum Patrick Gibson will play a young Dexter in his early days with Christian Slater as a young version of the father and Molly Brown as a younger version of the sister.
Clyde Phillips, who handled the original show’s first four seasons, returns as showrunner and executive producer of this ten-episode prequel series which begins in 1991 Miami, fifteen years before the events of the first season of “Dexter”.
Here he is a student transitioning into a serial killer in training. When his urges can no longer be ignored, he finds understanding in Harry who teaches Dexter a Code designed to both avoiding getting caught and help him find and kill people who deserve to die.
Gellar will have special guest star role as Tanya Martin, the CSI Chief at the Miami Metro Police Department and Dexter’s new boss.
She joins Patrick Dempsey as Aaron Spencer, James Martinez as Angel Batista, Christina Milian as Maria LaGuerta, Alex Shimizu as Vince Masuka and Reno Wilson as Bobby Watt.
The show aims to premiere later this year.
