“Baby Reindeer” creator and star Richard Gadd has set his next drama series “Lions” at HBO and the BBC. Gadd created, wrote and executive produces the six-episode drama series, but unlike his last project he isn’t attached to star in it.
In fact, the BBC commissioned the series back in February prior to the premiere of “Baby Reindeer” on Netflix. That title became an overnight sensation this year and turned Gadd into a household name. It has also drawn a royal ton of controversy.
The Glasgow-set series spans almost forty years from the 1980s to the present. In the series, a Scottish man named Niall finds his estranged ‘brother’ Ruben showing up at his wedding.
This leads to an explosion of violence that catapults us back through their lives as the show explores the brother’s relationship from their first meeting to their falling out and asks “What does it mean to be a man?”.
Gadd says in a statement “It has always been a dream of mine to work with HBO and be part of their iconic roster of shows. I am so grateful…. for [HBO] taking this chance on the show.”
Alexandra Brodski (“Rivals”) and Eshref Reybrouck (“Series”) are set to direct the series which hasn’t started casting as yet. Filming aims to get underway soon.
